Incheon City Council Urges "Relax Height Restrictions in Subong Park Area"

The Incheon City Council has called for the relaxation of height restrictions in the area around Subong Park to improve the residential environment in the old downtown area.

On the 4th, after the 295th plenary session, about 40 city council members gathered to hold a resolution rally urging the relaxation of building height limits in the height district around Subong Park in Michuhol-gu, Incheon.

The resolution announced that day included demands for Incheon City to prepare a plan to ease height district regulations that are appropriate to local conditions, so that residents who have been disadvantaged by excessive height restrictions in the Subong height district and the deteriorated residential environment can be improved; to seek measures to improve the residential environment for the realization of housing welfare; to initiate cadastral improvement projects for non-conforming land; and to provide related budget support.

Earlier, at the 294th extraordinary session, a related resolution passed the plenary session following criticism that "due to unreasonable regulations that have continued for over 40 years since the initial designation in 1984, resident outflow, residential area decline, and downtown hollowing have intensified."

Kim Jong-bae (National Party, Michuhol 4), who was the chief proposer of the resolution, along with Lee Bong-rak (National Party, Michuhol 3), Kim Dae-jung (National Party, Michuhol 2), Kim Jae-dong (National Party, Michuhol 1), Park Chang-ho, and Kim Dae-young (Proportional Representation), all representing Michuhol-gu, stated, "We will not only focus on Subong Park but also continuously pay attention to presenting concrete alternatives to improve the deteriorated residential environment in the old downtown area and ensure that administration that citizens can feel is carried out."
