Booking is easier than at regular golf courses, and the cost is also cheaper. Park golf is a sport that can be enjoyed with just one club, one ball, and a tee. The equipment is simple. You use one dedicated club throughout the game. The ball is larger than a regular golf ball. It is made of plastic, with a diameter of 6cm and a weight of 80?95g.
The hole length ranges from 40 to 150m. Compared to regular golf, the distance burden is less. One course consists of a total of 9 holes: four par-3 holes (40?60m), four par-4 holes (60?100m), and one par-5 hole (100?150m). One course covers 500?790m, and two courses cover 1000?1580m of walking. The size of one course is 8,250㎡ (about 2,500 pyeong), and the standard par is 33. The course includes a teeing ground for tee shots, fairways, greens, roughs, bunkers, out-of-bounds (OB), and hazards.
The fees are inexpensive, ranging from 3,000 to 10,000 won. You only need a club, ball, hat, shoes, tee, gloves, marker, ball pocket, scorecard, and sportswear. The club head is made of wood, with a length of 86cm and a weight under 600g. Shoes should have rubber soles, such as sneakers or golf shoes. The tee is made of rubber and must be no higher than 2.3cm.
After participating in a park golf-related training program and practicing sufficiently, players go out for a round. Especially, they learn safety accident prevention rules. When playing, groups of 3 to 4 people are formed. The tee shot order for the first hole is decided by drawing numbers, rock-paper-scissors, or similar methods. From the second hole onward, shots are taken in the order of the best scores from the previous hole. Play continues from the ball farthest from the flagstick. If a ball cannot be played, an unplayable declaration is made, a one-stroke penalty is given, and the ball is placed within two clubs’ length before the shot. If your ball interferes with another player’s shot, mark the spot where your ball was. On the green, players putt starting from the one farthest from the flagstick. After moving to the next hole, each player checks their strokes, and each player must fill out their own scorecard.
Etiquette is observed when playing park golf. Players hit the ball in order. To ensure smooth progress, prepare for your turn in advance. When a companion is taking a shot, remain quiet. Do not disturb the concentration of others. Always think about safety. Be careful not to let the ball fly toward nearby people. Golf courses are places used by many people. Keep the greens clean. Show respect to others during the round.
Immediately after the round, take good care of your clubs. Do not wash clubs with water; wipe them with tissue. If there is moisture, the wooden head may swell and deform. If used in a wet place, wrap the club in newspaper and store it in a well-ventilated shaded area. Do not store clubs inside a car. In summer, adhesives may melt and separate. The ball is made of synthetic resin and can be washed with water. If the club is damaged, have it repaired by the purchasing company.
