Gyeonggi Province is set to conduct safety inspections of apartment construction sites using drones ahead of the rainy season.
From the 5th to the 13th of this month, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will carry out a "Safety Inspection of Apartment Construction Sites in Preparation for the Rainy Season" targeting 10 apartment complexes in the province where initial construction is underway. This inspection will be a joint effort with city and county officials, involving private experts in civil engineering, architecture, and construction safety.
The 10 targeted sites are apartment construction locations within the province currently in the stages of ground excavation or early framework construction. These sites include areas with cut slopes, proximity to forested land or rivers, and large-scale complexes.
The main inspection items include ▲ management status of flood control measures and drainage facilities in preparation for heavy rainfall ▲ safety management conditions of slopes such as cut slopes, retaining walls, stone walls, and excavation sections ▲ adequacy of preventive measures against toppling of temporary fences, cranes, etc., in preparation for typhoons and ground subsidence ▲ appropriateness of on-site safety management plans to prevent heatwaves, fires, and electric shock accidents.
Earlier in February, Gyeonggi Province became the first in the nation to use drones for safety inspections of apartment construction sites during the thawing season. For this rainy season safety inspection, drones will again be utilized to closely examine areas that are difficult to inspect visually due to restricted pedestrian access.
Gyeonggi Province will have cities and counties conduct self-inspections of sites not included in the target list, and if requested, will recommend private experts from the Gyeonggi Province Apartment Quality Inspection Committee to assist.
Additionally, urgent or minor issues identified during inspections will be addressed immediately on-site, while matters requiring repairs or reinforcements will be reported to the respective city or county to ensure completion within a few days and ongoing management.
Park Jong-geun, Director of the Apartment Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Safety accidents during the rainy season can quickly escalate into major incidents, so thorough safety awareness and preparedness are crucial. We will strive to leave no gaps in safety management through meticulous inspections and maintenance, including verifying with participating private experts whether corrective actions have been completed after the inspections."
