The Chungnam Election Commission announced on the 4th that it has reported the representative of an organization that provided food and other items to election workers of a specific candidate to the Nonsan Branch of the Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office ahead of the 22nd National Assembly election.
Mr. A is accused of providing food worth approximately 240,000 won to the dance team members who were preliminary election workers for a specific candidate in exchange for election campaigning. Mr. B, a member of the same organization, is also accused of providing food worth about 250,000 won to them.
According to the Public Official Election Act, except for allowances and actual expenses permitted by election law, no one may provide money, goods, or other benefits related to election campaigning.
A Chungnam Election Commission official stated, "Providing money or goods in elections is an act that significantly undermines the fairness of elections, and we strictly take action regardless of the amount when money or goods are provided," adding, "We will also thoroughly investigate any provision of money or goods discovered after the election has ended."
