Suncheonhyang University Cheonan Hospital's Pediatric Emergency Medical Center, which launched the nation's first pediatric specialized emergency room, has recently lost its last specialist doctor.

According to Suncheonhyang University Cheonan Hospital on the 4th, the last specialist at the Pediatric Emergency Medical Center resigned last month.

As a result, the hospital is currently unable to provide treatment for severe patients under the age of 16, and trauma patients are being treated with support from the adult emergency room.

Previously, in September 2010, Suncheonhyang University, along with Seoul Asan Medical Center, was designated as the first pediatric emergency room nationwide, with up to seven specialists working due to high patient volume. However, the increasing workload for specialists due to the growing number of patients led to a vicious cycle of resignations starting from the end of last year.

In response, the hospital implemented self-help measures such as efforts to hire additional staff and closing twice a week on weekdays, but even the last remaining specialist has now left the hospital.

A hospital official stated, "The Pediatric Emergency Medical Center is still operating with support from the adult emergency room," and added, "Recruitment is underway, and we expect to fill the positions by next month."
