A Comprehensive Overview of the 20th Century 'Flow and History of Korean Modern Art'
The Gunsan Modern History Museum in Gunsan City, Jeonbuk (hereinafter referred to as the Museum) will hold a monthly historical lecture titled "Meeting with Professor Itaecho, Masters of Modern Painting" once a month from June to November.
According to the Museum on the 4th, this lecture series is designed to explore the history of Korean modern art through major masters and works of the 20th-century art world, highlighting the era reflected within and the modern artists.

The lectures will be led by Professor Itaecho, Chair Professor at Myongji University. Professor Itaecho is a historian of Korean art who has published 800 articles and 30 books including co-authored volumes. He graduated from Hongik University’s Department of Painting and its Graduate School of Art History, and worked as a curator at the National Museum of Korea and the National Gwangju Museum. He has served as a professor and museum director at Chonnam National University and Myongji University.
The lecture series consists of six sessions. ▲The first session reviews the flow and masters of Korean modern art history. ▲Sessions 2 through 5 explore the artistic worlds of major masters who led the 20th-century Korean modern art scene, including Cheongjeon Lee Sangbeom, Goam Lee Ungno, Cheon Kyungja, and Daehyang Lee Jungseop. ▲The sixth session covers Modernism and Minjung Art.
A museum official said, "We hope this will be an opportunity to clearly overview the flow and history of 20th-century Korean modern art history at a glance," adding, "We will strive to continuously provide quality educational opportunities to understand modern history."
Meanwhile, the 2024 Gunsan Modern History Museum historical lectures will be conducted in person. They will be held at 2 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month from June to December. The capacity is limited to 30 people on a first-come, first-served basis, and reservations can also be made by phone.
