Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, Awards Commendations to Meritorious Residents in Honor of Patriotic Veterans Month

Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, selected 33 distinguished residents and presented them with plaques of commendation in honor of the Month of National Defense and Veterans.


On the morning of the 3rd, Gwangsan-gu held the 'Coexistence and Sharing Plaza' at the Yunsangwon Hall in the district office building, attended by about 200 people including district office staff, citizens, and awardees.

The event was held under the theme "Everyone's Veterans in Daily Life, Together, Sustainable Gwangsan Leaping Forward," and followed the order of opening and national ceremony, cultural performances, awards, congratulatory and advisory remarks, and commemorative photo sessions with the awardees.


The awards were divided into three categories: National Defense and Veterans Merit (9 people), Autonomy (12 people), and Service and Diligent Public Officials (12 people).


The distinguished residents selected in the National Defense and Veterans category this time are Jo Iksam (affiliated with the Gwangsan-gu branch of the Bereaved Families of War Veterans Association), Hwang Gunju (Gwangsan-gu branch of the Agent Orange Veterans Association), Kim Makdong (Gwangsan-gu branch of the Vietnam War Veterans Association), Myeong Hyangja (Gwangsan-gu branch of the Widows of War Veterans Association), Oh Yungyo (Gwangsan-gu branch of the Special Mission Merit Association), Park Taeun (Gwangsan-gu branch of the Korean War Veterans Association), Oh Gilyeol (Gwangsan-gu branch of the Korea Disabled Veterans Association), Kim Heepung (Gwangsan-gu branch of the Korea Medal of Honor Recipients Association), and Seo Euijin (Gwangju Jeonnam Chunguisah Hyeonchanghoe).


Park Byunggyu, Mayor of Gwangsan-gu, said, "On the occasion of the Month of National Defense and Veterans, I would like to once again express my gratitude to those who devoted their bodies and minds to protect the country," emphasizing, "The reason we can enjoy happiness and live well is because there were distinguished individuals who protected and developed the Republic of Korea well."
