Explanation of Major Achievements from the 7th to 8th Civil Administration and Future Direction of the County
Goo Inmo, the governor of Geochang County in Gyeongnam, announced on the 3rd that he gave a special lecture to 216 participants at the Senior College affiliated with the Korean Senior Citizens Association Geochang Branch.
This special lecture, held at the request of the Korean Senior Citizens Association Geochang Branch, took place in two parts: in the morning at the Geochang Senior Citizens Hall for the Geochang Senior College, and in the afternoon at the Dongbu Senior College in the Dong Geochang Agricultural Cooperative Eco-friendly Education Center.
During the lecture, Governor Goo Inmo shared, in a storytelling format tailored to the audience, the major policies and achievements of the county government since his inauguration as the first governor of the 7th popularly elected administration, his personal journey and life as a governor, and the future development direction of Geochang County, which resonated with many attendees.
County Governor Koo Inmo is giving a special lecture at the Senior College affiliated with the Korea Senior Citizens Association.
He first explained that although Geochang County has the lowest proportion of residents aged 65 or older among county regions in the province, it has still entered a super-aged society with 31.4% of its population being seniors. He also noted that the largest portion of the county's budget is allocated to social welfare policies, including senior welfare.
In particular, he introduced Geochang County's senior welfare policies, such as the public dementia care nursing facility, direct management of the county-run senior nursing hospital, age-friendly city certification, expansion of senior job programs, and pilot distribution of heating devices to senior community centers.
Reflecting on the early challenges of the 7th administration, including the construction of the new Geochang Detention Center, relocation of the Geochang District Court and Prosecutor’s Office, the trademark issue of the Geochang International Theater Festival, and the difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, he recalled that with the support and trust of the citizens, including the seniors present, the administration was able to actively address these issues, resolve all conflicts, and lay the foundation for a brighter future.
He continued by explaining key strategies for making Geochang a happier place for its residents, such as creating a healthy community through expanding sports infrastructure, building a sustainable tourism city with the Changpowon and Gamaksan projects and ushering in the era of forest tourism in Geochang, realizing practical administration as seen in the completion of the rotary and Handul pumping station, and the democratic process of site selection for the crematorium, which was a campaign pledge.
Goo Inmo expressed his gratitude to the Korean Senior Citizens Association Geochang Branch for the opportunity to give the lecture, stating, "Geochang County is becoming the city with the lowest population decline, the local government with the largest budget, and the region with the highest birth and marriage rates, making it the best place to live. I will continue to put residents first, lead a progressive administration, and do my utmost to make Geochang the best local government."
Meanwhile, the Senior College affiliated with the Korean Senior Citizens Association Geochang Branch operates the Geochang Senior College and two Dongbu Senior Colleges in Gajo, Gabuk, and Namha regions. From March to December, it plans to hold weekly programs such as cultural lectures, singing classes, health exercises, and special lectures every Friday.
