Today at 2 PM, the detention hearing... Decision on arrest to be made
The decision on whether to detain Mr. Park, in his 60s, who is accused of murdering a mother and daughter in an officetel in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, will be made as early as the 2nd.
Judge Choi Min-hye of the Seoul Central District Court will hold a pre-arrest detention hearing (warrant review) for Mr. Park, who is charged with murder, at 2 p.m. that day.
Around 1:26 p.m., Mr. Park, wearing a black hat and mask, got off the transport vehicle and, when asked by reporters, "Is it true that you committed the crime because you were angry after being told to break up?" he replied that "(the daughter among the victims) made a phone call to her husband, which led to the crime."
He entered the courthouse without answering questions such as "What kind of conversation did you have with the victims on the day of the crime?"
According to the police, Mr. Park is accused of stabbing a woman in her 60s, Ms. A, and her daughter in her 30s to death with a weapon at an office on the 6th floor of an officetel in Gangnam-gu at 6:16 p.m. on the 30th of last month. It is known that Mr. Park was in a relationship with Ms. A. Ms. A reportedly met Mr. Park at her office with her daughter to convey that she wanted to end the relationship, which led to the incident.
Mr. Park fled immediately after the crime but was arrested around 7:45 a.m. the next day near Namtaeryeong Station in Seocho-gu, 13 hours later. When being escorted to the police station, Mr. Park claimed to reporters that the crime was impulsive.
