A former bodybuilder who violently assaulted a woman demanding her car be moved, breaking her ribs, was sentenced to prison.
Judge Hong Jun-seo of the Incheon District Court Criminal Division 5 sentenced A (39), who was indicted on charges including joint injury under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes, to two years in prison and ordered his detention in court on the 31st during the sentencing hearing.
Judge Hong stated, "Considering the fact that the victim was assaulted unilaterally, a prison sentence is unavoidable," and added, "There is a risk of flight, so I am ordering detention in court." Earlier, the prosecution had requested a prison term of three years and six months for A during the sentencing hearing held on the 1st.
After the sentence, when Judge Hong asked A if he had anything to say, he tearfully replied, "I am truly sorry for causing trouble to society and I am reflecting on my actions." Prior to the sentencing hearing, he deposited 100 million won with the court for the victim and also submitted letters of leniency from acquaintances and others.
A was indicted without detention on charges of violently assaulting a woman in her 30s, B, with fists and feet at around 11 a.m. on May 20 last year in the parking lot of an apartment shopping center in Namdong-gu, Incheon.
At the time, B was assaulted after requesting A to move his car, which was blocking her vehicle, and was diagnosed with injuries requiring six weeks of treatment, including broken ribs. It is known that A, a former bodybuilder, closed the gym he operated after the incident.
