Gumi City Launches Green Convergence Cluster Project to Boost Resource Security and Circular Economy

Discussion on Plans to Establish an Advanced Electronics Industry Resource Circulation Cluster

On the 30th, the city of Gumi in North Gyeongsang Province held a kick-off briefing session for a study to establish a plan and roadmap for the creation of an Advanced Electronics Industry Resource Circulation Green Convergence Cluster, with over 50 participants including the Ministry of Environment, North Gyeongsang Province, and Gumi-based companies.

This research project includes the necessity and expected effects of establishing a new green convergence cluster, plans for installing key facilities and creating an integrated complex, and strategies for fostering green innovation industries and securing financial resources.


During the subsequent business roundtable, representatives from more than 20 companies and research institutions, including SK Siltron, freely shared their opinions on the creation and operation of the green convergence cluster. The participants agreed on the importance of resource security and revitalizing the circular economy, voicing a unified call for swift action.


Park Eunhee, Director of the Environment and Transportation Bureau, said, "I would like to thank the companies for their interest in the green convergence cluster project and for attending the roundtable for the sake of carbon neutrality and revitalizing the local economy," and added, "We will work together with the Ministry of Environment, North Gyeongsang Province, and Gumi City to actively review and incorporate the various suggestions made during the roundtable."


After establishing the development plan, the Ministry of Environment will gather opinions from the relevant local governments, consult with the heads of central administrative agencies, and designate the final site for the green convergence cluster following a review process.
