Ulsan City Appoints Lim Chaemoon, Lifetime Member of the London Symphony Orchestra, as Honorary Ambassador

First Korean Lifetime Member to Promote Hometown Ulsan City

Im Chaemun, a double bassist from Ulsan who became the first Korean to be appointed as a permanent member of the London Symphony Orchestra (LSO), will serve as an ambassador for Ulsan City.

Ulsan City will hold an appointment ceremony for Im Chaemun as Ulsan’s ambassador at 4 p.m. on the 31st at the main building of City Hall.

Starting with an appearance on Ulsan City’s official YouTube channel ‘Gorae TV’ on this day, Im Chaemun will begin his activities as an ambassador for Ulsan.

Im Chaemun, a native of Ulsan who graduated from Ulsan Jeil Middle School and Ulsan Arts High School, became the first Korean to win second place in the double bass category at the 2022 Anton Rubinstein International Competition in Germany. He later served as a soloist and member of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra Academy in Germany.

He has also performed as a guest member with the Amsterdam Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Hamburg State Opera, and Deutsche Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, among others.

Im Chaemun said, “Living abroad has made me deeply appreciate and miss my hometown. I am grateful to be appointed as an ambassador for Ulsan,” and added, “As an ambassador, I will actively promote the charm and beauty of my hometown Ulsan.”

Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom said, “We are very proud and delighted to appoint Im Chaemun, an artist from Ulsan who performs with the world’s top orchestras, as Ulsan’s ambassador. I hope he will widely promote the diverse attractions of Ulsan’s industry, ecology, culture, and tourism both domestically and internationally.”

The term for Ulsan’s ambassador is two years, and it is an unpaid honorary position. Ambassadors carry out domestic and international activities to raise Ulsan’s profile, as well as promoting major city policies, culture, and tourism. Currently, broadcaster Lee Yongsik, singers Tei, Hong Ja, Cho Sungmo, actors Kim Sumi, and Jung Suhan are serving as ambassadors for Ulsan City.
