Seoul Youth Center Gangbuk Baeknyeon Market Open Run... Traditional Market Shopping Experience Held

Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Lee Soon-hee) announced that on the 24th, the Seoul Youth Center Gangbuk, which is operated under consignment, and the Baeknyeon Market Merchants Association conducted a 'Traditional Market Shopping' experience in the Baeknyeon Market area. This event was aimed at helping socially isolated and reclusive youth living in communal living spaces within the district, as well as participants in the Youth Challenge Support Project, to adapt socially.

The shopping experience took place following the completion ceremony of the Baeknyeon Market arcade, with the Seoul Youth Center Gangbuk serving as the focal point. During the event, the youth used Onnuri gift certificates to purchase food ingredients at Baeknyeon Market, contributing to the revitalization of the local economy through this hands-on program.

In August of last year, the Seoul Youth Center Gangbuk actively utilized local resources to support youth in recovering their daily lives, entering the labor market, and building social networks by signing a tripartite agreement with the Baeknyeon Market Merchants Association and the preliminary social enterprise Anmuseoun Hoesa. The Baeknyeon Market Merchants Association provides seasonal ingredients and fresh vegetables free of charge every week to the communal living spaces managed by Anmuseoun Hoesa, a specialized private organization supporting socially isolated and reclusive youth in the area.

Lee Haeryong, president of the Baeknyeon Market Merchants Association, stated, "We will support youth residing in Gangbuk-gu to gradually adapt to society, starting from visiting the market and shopping, and we will actively cooperate and consider ways we can help as market merchants."

Kwon Hye-jin, director of the Seoul Youth Center Gangbuk, expressed determination, saying, "We plan to support the 'shopping experience' once a month to help the participating youth adapt socially."

Lee Soon-hee, mayor of Gangbuk-gu, said, "I hope this shopping experience will continue through the local community cooperation network," and added, "Gangbuk-gu will strive to make this an opportunity for participating youth to adapt socially and establish a foundation for social advancement."
