Three More Kids Cafes to Open This Year, Focusing on Creating a Child-Friendly Environment
Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) opened the first Seoul-style kids cafe in Songpa-gu, ‘Haha Hoho Playground,’ at Jamsil Neighborhood Park on the 30th.
‘Haha Hoho Playground’ is an indoor playground created by remodeling the old Jamsilbon-dong Community Center building. It has a total area of 402.11㎡ and is a two-story building with nine play facilities. It is a space where children can run and play freely regardless of weather or season.
The biggest feature is that the entire first and second floors are connected as one play course, making it a ‘boundary-free playground.’ Centered around a 6-meter-high tower-shaped wooden play structure that spans the first and second floors, children can climb rock walls or stairs, slide down slides, and cross suspension bridges. The play equipment embodies the identity of ‘Songpa,’ meaning pine hill.
On the second floor, there are four levels of play courses according to age difficulty. Through the ‘Haha Hoho Challenge Course,’ children from toddlers to lower elementary grades can choose and challenge themselves with activities such as blocks, board games, and crossing a single-log bridge, experiencing a sense of accomplishment.
In addition, rest areas, locker rooms, and a rooftop garden have been created to provide a comfortable space for both children and guardians.
Before the opening, on May 10, Mayor Seo Gang-seok of Songpa-gu conducted a final facility inspection to thoroughly ensure safety. In particular, he ordered thorough management of safety devices such as nets and wire mesh related to the main wooden play structure to prevent accidents during children’s use.
The district has permanently assigned a total of five staff members, including safety managers, caregivers, and operators, to provide user guidance, safety supervision, and play care services.
The facility is intended for children aged 4 to 9 living in Seoul and their guardians. The fee is 2,000 KRW for children and 1,000 KRW for guardians.
It operates every Tuesday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with a one-hour break for disinfection and cleaning after two hours of operation. Reservations can be made online through the ‘Our Neighborhood Care Portal.’
Toys can be easily borrowed before and after using the playground. Considering user accessibility, the district created a toy library on the basement first floor of the playground. The spacious 122.4㎡ area is equipped with about 1,000 toys for infants and toddlers.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, “Starting with the first ‘Haha Hoho Playground,’ we will expand Seoul-style kids cafes to seven locations,” adding, “We will create an environment where more children can safely play and happily grow near their homes, making Songpa a great place to raise children.”
