Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced on the 30th that it conducted the ‘Disaster Response Safety Korea Drill’ in the Sin-gil 5-dong area in cooperation with 10 related organizations, including Seoul City Hall, Yeongdeungpo Fire Station, Yeongdeungpo Police Station, and the district’s Autonomous Disaster Prevention Group.

The Safety Korea Drill is a nationwide exercise aimed at strengthening practical response capabilities and systems for disaster situations through unannounced drills simulating crisis scenarios.

This drill focused on a complex disaster scenario caused by heavy rain and typhoons, aiming to minimize repeated damage and inspect response systems across various sectors.

The district assumed various disaster situations caused by heavy rain exceeding 100mm per hour, such as ▲flooding of residential basements ▲collapse of walls ▲multiple people trapped ▲fires caused by transformer short circuits ▲vehicle flooding, and conducted both discussions and on-site training simultaneously.

Additionally, to enhance the completeness of the drill, the district held planning meetings for the Disaster Response Safety Korea Drill involving 13 working teams and related organizations, and conducted two rounds of consulting with external experts, making every effort to establish a systematic response plan.

In particular, the drill recreated situations similar to actual disaster scenes to increase realism and tension, focusing on organic cooperation among metropolitan, basic, and related organizations. Using the National Disaster Safety Communication Network (PS-LTE), the headquarters and field sites communicated disaster situations in real time, conducting linked training for rapid situation dissemination.

Furthermore, based on the action manual, participants engaged in real-time discussions on initial response and the duties of each working team, familiarizing themselves with the manual and inspecting and establishing the response system.

Meanwhile, in this drill, Yeongdeungpo Fire Station deployed 94 personnel and 15 vehicles, demonstrating a thorough response posture. They conducted life rescue training assuming scenarios related to typhoon and flood disasters such as buried and fallen victims, utilizing various equipment including drones, handlers, cranes, and helicopters to enhance the realism of the training.

Also, to prepare for large-scale casualties, the ‘On-site Emergency Medical Center’ composed of Yeongdeungpo Fire Station, the district health center (Rapid Response Team), and Yeouido St. Mary’s Hospital (DMAT team) was activated to conduct training on rapid emergency treatment and patient transport.

Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “Disaster response is the most fundamental duty of local governments,” and added, “We will do our best to establish a flawless disaster response system through drills like real situations, so that we can promptly respond in the event of a disaster and protect the precious lives and property of our residents.”
