Pukyong National University Hosts 7th International Conference on Northeast Asia Maritime Humanities Network

On the 30th and 31st, 20 Universities and Research Institutes from Northeast Asia to Participate

The Humanities Korea Plus (HK+) Project Group at Pukyong National University held the 7th Northeast Asian Maritime Humanities Network International Conference over two days, on the 30th and 31st.

Pukyong National University Hosts 7th International Conference on Northeast Asia Maritime Humanities Network Participants of the 7th Northeast Asian Maritime Humanities Network International Conference are taking a commemorative photo.

This academic conference, held at the Somin Hall in the Mirae Building of Pukyong National University, was themed "The Past, Present, and Future of Northeast Asian Maritime Humanities," and brought together 20 universities and research institutions from Northeast Asia, including Korea.


From Korea, 12 universities and institutions including Pukyong National University participated, while from the Chinese-speaking region, four universities including Xiamen University joined. From Japan, four universities and research institutions including the University of Tokyo took part, with scholars in maritime humanities from a total of 20 institutions presenting and engaging in discussions.


On the first day, under the theme "Current Status and Challenges of Northeast Asian Maritime Humanities," researchers from the region held a heated public roundtable discussion. This was followed by sessions on "Northeast Asian Maritime Networks and Migration" and "Northeast Asian Maritime Networks: Fishing Villages and Industry."


On the second day, presentations and discussions were held in the sessions "Northeast Asian Maritime Networks and Knowledge Exchange" and "The Future of Northeast Asian Maritime Humanities."


The HK+ Project Group at Pukyong National University annually organizes international academic conferences by selecting timely topics related to the Northeast Asian maritime area, aiming to examine the region from a humanities perspective together with scholars specializing in maritime studies.


Kim Changkyung, Director of the HK+ Project Group, said, "Through this academic conference, we expect to spread the originality of the agenda pursued by the HK+ Project Group at Pukyong National University abroad, and to expand the scope of maritime humanities through academic exchanges with renowned domestic and international researchers we meet on site."
