[Breaking] Constitutional Court Dismisses Impeachment Petition Against Prosecutor Andongwan... 5(Dismissed):4(Approved)

On the 30th, the Constitutional Court dismissed the impeachment petition against Andongwan, the Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Busan District Prosecutors' Office (age 53, Judicial Research and Training Institute class 32), with a decision of 5 justices against dismissal and 4 justices in favor. A majority of the justices' approval is required for the impeachment petition to be accepted.

Prosecutor Ahn, the first sitting prosecutor to be impeached, was impeached on charges of 'retaliatory prosecution' against Yoo Woosung, a former Seoul city official.

The main reason for Prosecutor Ahn's impeachment petition is that he allegedly carried out 'retaliatory prosecution' against Yoo based on separate charges related to illegal remittances to North Korea (violation of the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act), for which Yoo had already received a non-prosecution disposition.
