Eunpyeong-gu Hosts '2024 Eunpyeong Environment Festival' in Celebration of Environment Day

Eunpyeong-gu (District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced that it will hold the ‘2024 Eunpyeong Environmental Festival’ at Eunpyeong Peace Park on June 5th to commemorate the 29th Environment Day.

The ‘Eunpyeong Environmental Festival’ will take place from 1 PM to 5 PM and is open to everyone. The event aims to encourage participation and action based on solidarity and cooperation to address the crises caused by climate change experienced in daily life and to achieve a transition to carbon neutrality.

The event will feature various hands-on programs that are both enjoyable and educational, including ▲ the rebirth of discarded picture books and waste ▲ ecological environment stories learned through play and experience ▲ fascinating renewable energy ▲ food overcoming the climate crisis.

A total of 19 local organizations (groups) active in environmental conservation and carbon neutrality across fields such as ecology, resource circulation, energy, food, climate crisis and human rights, and administration will participate.

The district expects the event to serve primarily as a platform for exchange to foster solidarity and cooperation among stakeholders.

In particular, Eunpyeong-gu will operate the ‘2024 1st Eunpyeong Environmental Education Week’ from May 25th to June 11th in celebration of Environment Day on June 5th. During this week, the neighborhood residents’ councils, Eunpyeong Cultural Foundation, Eunpyeong Facilities Management Corporation, eight public libraries in Eunpyeong-gu, Eunpyeong Lifelong Learning Center, and Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute will hold their own events. These include environmental education, sharing markets, book exhibitions, environmental facility tours, environmental magic shows, experiential learning, resource recycling, green consumption campaigns, and special screenings of the Seoul International Environmental Film Festival.

Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, said, “The environment we enjoy now is borrowed from future generations, so we must use it well and return it in good condition.” She added, “I hope the Eunpyeong Environmental Festival becomes a joyful festival where people practice and participate for the future.”
