June 1-2: 18 Book-Related Institutions Including Hongdae Red Road R1 and Mapo-gu Public Library Gather
Thrifty Book Market and Celebrity Autographed Book Auction Proceeds to Be Donated Entirely to Mapo Welfare Foundation

Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Kang-su) will hold the reading culture event "The Book Day" at Hongdae Red Road R1 from 2 PM to 9 PM on June 1st and 2nd. "The Book Day" is an event aimed at spreading a culture of communication and sharing through books, and it is being held for the first time this year.
A total of 18 organizations, including Mapo-gu Public Library, Mapo Welfare Foundation, Saemaeul Geumgo, and the Publishing Culture Promotion Center Platform P, will participate in the festival, offering various programs such as ▲Thrifty Book Market ▲Experience Booths ▲Curation Booths ▲Book Auction ▲Book Talk.
The "Thrifty Book Market" is a used book flea market selling donated books from various fields at affordable prices. The "The Book Day Promotion Committee," composed of residents from 16 neighborhoods in Mapo-gu, will operate it directly, and all proceeds from sales will be donated to the Mapo Welfare Foundation to be used for underprivileged groups in Mapo-gu.
At the reading culture experience booths operated by Mapo-gu Public Library, the Publishing Culture Promotion Center, and Saemaeul Geumgo, interactive events such as ▲personality-type tailored book recommendations through psychological tests ▲car balloon making ▲book-shaped keychain making ▲writing wind fan making will be held.
Additionally, various exhibition booths will be set up, including a curation corner introducing Mapo's hidden attractions and Red Road with themes like "Traveling Mapo along Red Road" and "Generational Empathy, Filial Travel," which displays digital education materials for the elderly.
On June 1st at 6 PM, starting with a congratulatory performance by singer Kang Min-jae, a book auction will be held on the Reading Camp Zone stage. Donated books with handwritten autographs by celebrities will be auctioned on-site, and all auction proceeds will be fully donated to the Mapo Welfare Foundation.
Following that, at 7 PM, a book talk and signing event with author Park Sang-young, known for "100% Pure Rest," will be held to communicate with the audience about "true rest and travel." The book talk will be held once more at 4 PM on June 2nd, featuring authors Kim Eun-duk and Baek Jong-min, discussing "Living for a Month Instead of Traveling," "Living for a Month," and "Life as an Author and YouTuber."
Park Kang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, "The Book Day is a meaningful event where good books sleeping on bookshelves are donated and the sales proceeds are shared with neighbors in need," adding, "I hope visitors to Hongdae Red Road will not only look at books through The Book Day event but also feel the joy and fulfillment of communicating and sharing together through books."
