Yangcheon-gu Fully Operates 18 Water Facilities Including Ground Fountains to Beat the Heat

Yangcheon-gu (District Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced on the 29th that it will fully operate 18 major water facilities, including the Mokdong Paris Park ground fountains and Anyangcheon water playground, starting in June to allow residents exhausted by the rapidly rising temperatures to enjoy a cool rest in urban areas near their homes.

The water facilities to be operated this time include a total of 18 locations categorized by type: ▲5 ground fountains ▲3 general fountains ▲5 ponds and streams ▲5 water playgrounds. Currently, 11 locations such as the Paris Park ground fountain, Hakmaeul Fountain Plaza, and Yangcheon Park stream walking trail are being operated early. In particular, the Yangcheon Park stream walking trail continuously operates a cooling fog system to maintain comfortable air quality during heatwave hours.

In addition, the district will activate 7 more locations starting next month. From June to September, two ground fountains at Haenuri Fountain Plaza and Sun & Moon Fountain Plaza will be operated. Also, to coincide with summer vacation, four water playgrounds popular among children, including Hanul Neighborhood Park and Baekseok Children's Park, are scheduled to open in July and August.

Especially, the Anyangcheon Family Garden Water Playground, which was introduced for the first time last year and features five water play facilities covering 1,000㎡, will open on June 20, about ten days earlier than other water playgrounds, befitting its status as a representative attraction of Anyangcheon.

The operating hours will mainly cover the hot daytime hours, running 2 to 6 times a day for 30 to 50 minutes each session. However, the facilities will be closed on Mondays and will be operated flexibly considering major events, weather conditions, user numbers, and power supply situations.

In particular, ground fountains where many children play and cool off during the summer will undergo regular water quality and facility inspections to carefully ensure hygiene and safety.

Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “Ahead of the full summer season, we are operating 18 water facilities so that residents can briefly relieve the heat and create joyful memories close to home,” adding, “We will perfectly manage water quality and facilities to ensure these places are safe and clean resting spots.”
