June 3 - June 16, Applications Open for 20,000 Youths Aged 7 to 15
30,000 KRW Support per Person (50,000 KRW for Welfare Recipients)... Addressing Educational Blind Spots and Offering Diverse Science Experiences
Outstanding Experience Review Contest Planned... Opportunities for About 10 Middle School Students to Experience Advanced Overseas Science Culture
Yeongdeungpo-gu (Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will provide a ‘Science Culture Voucher’ to 20,000 elementary and middle school students in the area to expand opportunities for science culture education.
Any elementary or middle school student (ages 7 to 15) residing in Yeongdeungpo-gu can apply, and applicants will receive a Science Culture Voucher card worth 30,000 KRW per year (50,000 KRW for welfare recipients) per person.
The Science Culture Voucher can be used by selecting one of two types: ‘Type ① National Gwacheon Science Museum Partnership Membership’ or ‘Type ② General Science Culture Voucher.’ Welfare recipients can use it everywhere without selection.
For the National Gwacheon Science Museum, a partnership membership worth 30,000 KRW is supported. Partnership members enjoy benefits such as ▲free admission to the permanent exhibition hall (for the member) ▲four free admission tickets (for accompanying guests, etc.) ▲50% discount on planetarium admission ▲20% discount on observatory education fees, and it is valid for one year from the date of purchase.
The general Science Culture Voucher can be used at four locations: ▲National Children’s Science Museum ▲Seodaemun Natural History Museum ▲Nowon Astronomy and Space Science Center ▲Bucheon Robo Park. The voucher is automatically deducted when using admission fees, education, and experience programs, making it convenient to use.
To provide more students with opportunities, the district has designated June as an intensive online recruitment period, allowing convenient online applications without visiting the community service center. From June 3 to 16, notices and cards will be distributed first to elementary and middle schools. After receiving the card, applicants can apply and register through the ‘Yeongdeungpo Children and Youth Science Culture Voucher’ website, and use it after approval.
Applications can be made by a legal guardian or the applicant themselves, but if the applicant applies directly, consent from the legal guardian is required. Students who complete their application by June 16 will receive a usage notification message on June 24 and can then use the voucher.
From July to November, applications will be accepted continuously, either by visiting the community service center or applying online through the Yeongdeungpo Children and Youth Science Culture Voucher website. Detailed information can be found on the Yeongdeungpo Children and Youth Science Culture Voucher or the district website.
Meanwhile, through an excellent experience review contest project, about 10 middle school students who visited science culture institutions will be selected and given the opportunity to experience ‘advanced overseas science culture,’ demonstrating the district’s unwavering support for discovering future talents.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, said, “I hope this Science Culture Voucher will be a great opportunity for many students to freely experience science culture,” and added, “We will continue to prepare substantial projects so that children can grow into scientific talents who will lead future society through diverse science experiences.”
