Director Gi Kwanghwan: "All Crew Members Will Strive to Become Best Broadcasting Kings to Ensure Safe Train Use"
Seoul Metro (President Baek Ho) announced that it held the ‘2024 Best Announcer Contest’ and selected five outstanding employees out of a total of 15 contestants. The ‘Announcer of the Year’ with the highest score was Engineer Geum Jeong-eun of Line 8.
The company has been holding the Best Announcer Contest annually since 1998, and this year marked the 27th contest.
The Best Announcer Contest, held on May 24, evaluates the announcement skills necessary for communication with passengers during subway operation, targeting more than 3,500 crew members. The main evaluation criteria include the ability to respond and handle unexpected situations such as train malfunctions, as well as performing emotional announcements that comfort passengers’ weary minds and add vitality to their daily lives.
Additionally, employees who frequently received praise from passengers were awarded extra points.
In particular, to commemorate the company’s 50th anniversary this year, the employee selected as the Best Announcer received, in addition to the existing commendation, an honorary Best Announcer badge and a monetary prize.
Engineer Geum Jeong-eun (affiliated with Jamsil Crew Office), who was selected as the Best Announcer of 2024, operates Line 8 trains. Since joining in 2019, Geum, now in her fifth year of service, demonstrated excellent capabilities and surpassed strong competitors to claim the top position.
Engineer Geum Jeong-eun said, “I prepared for over a year for this Best Announcer Contest. During the preparation, I studied a lot and learned things I didn’t know before. I thought carefully about announcements during unexpected situations and gained confidence to respond more skillfully in real situations to protect citizens’ safety,” expressing her award acceptance remarks.
As the Best Announcer, Engineer Geum received high evaluations from the judges for independently preparing announcement scripts for unusual situations during the unexpected situation assessment and creatively informing passengers about the train’s status.
In this contest, five outstanding crew members, including Engineer Geum, who were evaluated to have excellent announcement delivery and situation handling skills, were selected.
Ki Gwang-hwan, Head of the Crew Headquarters at Seoul Metro, said, “I sincerely congratulate the five winners who made great efforts in the 2024 Best Announcer Contest,” and added, “We will strengthen the capabilities of all crew members to become the Best Announcer, ensuring safe train use and customer satisfaction services for citizens.”
