Cheonan City Council Conducts On-site Visit for Restoration of 'Hwachukgwan'

Discussion on the Suitability of Reenactment Locations at Cheonan Jungang Elementary School and Samgeori Park

Cheonan City Council Conducts On-site Visit for Restoration of 'Hwachukgwan'

The Cheonan City Council conducted discussions to recreate the Haechukgwan, the royal temporary palace of Cheonan during the Joseon Dynasty, by identifying the presumed site of Haechukgwan.

The "Research Group for the Restoration of Cheonan's Haechukgwan" visited Cheonan Jungang Elementary School and Cheonan Samgeori Park on the 29th.

The site visits were carried out to locate the presumed site of Haechukgwan and to find suitable locations for its restoration.

Cheonan Jungang Elementary School is considered a strong candidate for the old site of Haechukgwan, where trial excavations were conducted in 2021 and 2022.

Subsequently, city council members visited Cheonan Samgeori Park, where Yeongnamru, the main gate of Haechukgwan, has been relocated, and a nearby undeveloped park to discuss with the relevant departments the suitability of these locations for the restoration of Haechukgwan.

Council member Lee Jong-man stated, "Haechukgwan, a building from the Joseon Dynasty, is an important historical and academic asset of Cheonan. It must be restored to establish cultural pride among Cheonan citizens and to revitalize the local economy."
