Technical and Financial Support to Improve Safety and Health Standards of Suppliers
Three in-house subcontractors of Dongkuk Steel, the hot-rolled steel business unit of Dongkuk Steel Group, received certification for compliance with the Serious Accident Punishment Act.
On the 29th, Dongkuk Steel announced that it held the ‘In-house Subcontractor Serious Accident Punishment Act Compliance Certification (SAPA Compliance Certification·SCC) Award Ceremony’ at its headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul.
The Serious Accident Punishment Act compliance certification is a certification system jointly issued by a specialized law firm for serious accident recurrence and safety expert organizations. Lawyers from the law firm review documents to check compliance with evaluation criteria, and safety experts visit the site to assess adherence to legal regulations before issuing the certification.
On this day, three business sites?Dongkuk R&S Co., Ltd. Incheon Plant, Dongkuk R&S Co., Ltd. Pohang Plant, and Korea ITS Inspection Co., Ltd.?received certificates from the law firm Daeryuk Aju.

Since December last year, Dongkuk Steel has been discussing the promotion of SCC certification for in-house subcontractors with the law firm Daeryuk Aju and has continued to provide technical and financial support related to safety for five months. The acquisition of this SCC certification is meaningful as it reflects cooperation between the primary contractor and subcontractors in reviewing the adequacy of safety and health system establishment and preventing major industrial accidents.
Attendees at the award ceremony included Byun Hong-yeol, Head of Planning at Dongkuk Steel; Bae Jae-man, Head of Dongkuk R&S Incheon Plant; Kang Kyung-mook, Head of Dongkuk R&S Pohang Plant; Jung Ha-seong, CEO of Korea ITS Inspection; and Cha Dong-eon, Director of Daeryuk Aju.
Director Byun said, "We aim to expand Dongkuk Steel’s safety and health management capabilities to in-house subcontractors to promote mutual growth. We will continue to strive to achieve our vision of being a company that protects the safety and health of all workers."
Last year, as a result of actively participating in the ‘Large, Medium, and Small Enterprise Safety and Health Win-Win Cooperation Project,’ two business sites, Incheon Plant and Dangjin Plant, were selected as ‘Win-Win Cooperation Excellent Companies’ by the Ministry of Employment and Labor. Dongkuk Steel plans to focus on improving company-wide safety and health levels, including the establishment of an integrated safety and health information system.
