On the 29th, Naju City in Jeollanam-do announced that it recently held various events as part of the '2024 Donghaeng Festival' at Naju Moksago-eul Market, a representative traditional market in the region.
This event was part of a cultural tourism market development project supported by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, the Small Enterprise and Market Service, and Naju City. About 230 participants, including students from Naju Jungang Elementary School and children from Caritas Seongmo Kindergarten, took part in a drawing contest and shopping experience event themed around traditional markets.
The children learned economic concepts by purchasing items themselves using Onnuri gift certificates provided for the shopping experience. They also enjoyed bubble shows, magic shows, and hands-on activities such as making keyrings and diffusers.
The drawing contest themed on traditional markets saw diverse participation from kindergarteners to lower and upper elementary students.
After judging by the panel, one grand prize winner, three excellence awardees, and five encouragement awardees were selected, receiving Onnuri gift certificates worth 200,000 KRW, 100,000 KRW, and 50,000 KRW respectively as prizes.
The children shared their thoughts, saying, "I didn't know the market was such a fun place," and "Adults were kind, and there were many interesting items, so I want to visit again with my friends and have fun."
Han Jae-pil, chairman of the Naju Moksago-eul Market Merchants Association, said, "The market was bustling with activity after a long time, and the merchants couldn't stop smiling," adding, "We ask for much interest in the Night Picnic event to be held at Naju Moksago-eul Market starting next month."
Meanwhile, the '2024 Donghaeng Festival' is a consumption festival enjoyed by the entire nation to bring new vitality to South Korea's economy.
