The Grand Opening Ceremony of the '2024 Glocal Future Education Expo' Held

Inviting Michael Sandel and Others, Operating Future Classroom, Held for 5 Days Until June 2

The "2024 Korea Glocal Future Education Expo," which will present a new paradigm of the "Great Transformation of Future Education" to nurture global citizens, opened spectacularly on the 29th at the Yeosu World Expo Center in Jeollanam-do.


This expo is jointly hosted by the Jeollanam-do Office of Education, the Ministry of Education, Jeollanam-do Province, and the Gyeongbuk Office of Education, and will be held for five days until the 2nd of next month under the theme "Symbiotic Education, Sustainable Future."

The opening ceremony was attended by about 900 people, including Kim Dae-jung, Superintendent of Jeollanam-do Office of Education; Lee Ju-ho, Minister of Education; Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeollanam-do; Lim Jong-sik, Superintendent of Gyeongbuk Office of Education; nationwide city and provincial superintendents of education; Lee Bae-yong, Chairperson of the National Education Commission; Woo Dong-gi, Chairperson of the Local Era Committee; as well as students and parents.


Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Lee Ju-ho stated, "This event is meaningful as a platform to share a region-centered education reform model with the world," adding, "We will continue to provide various policy support so that regions can become the main agents of innovation and create excellent models that lead the world."


The opening ceremony featured a keynote speech by Harvard University professor Michael Sandel, author of the widely discussed book "What Is Justice," a special performance EduDream K-POP concert, a traditional Korean music parade by the Navy Education Command, and various exhibitions and conference events held throughout the expo venue.


The expo program is vibrantly organized into five sections: ▲Future Education Conference ▲Glocal Future Classroom ▲Future Education Exhibition ▲Cultural and Artistic Exchange ▲Future Education Festival.


In particular, attendees can see tangible examples of future education, from the 2030 future class models developed and unveiled by over 400 teachers from Jeollanam-do, to the directions of future education discussed with scholars from 22 countries overseas, and distinctive curricula from various countries.


Superintendent Kim Dae-jung said in his opening speech, "To find answers to the era’s challenge of sustainability, we aim to implement glocal education centered on regional symbiosis," adding, "Through glocal education, we will enhance the competitiveness and potential of Jeollanam-do education and Korean education to overcome the current crisis and revive hope for the future."
