Academic Research and Legislative Support Achievements in Disaster Safety Culture
Dong-A University (President Lee Hae-woo) announced on the 29th that Professor Lee Dongkyu of the Graduate School’s Department of Disaster Management received a Certificate of Merit from the Speaker of the National Assembly for his academic research and legislative support activities in disaster safety culture.
The Certificate of Merit from the National Assembly is an award presented by the Speaker, the head of the legislative branch. It is given to individuals who serve as role models to the public through volunteer work and good deeds, or who have contributed to national and social development by dedicating themselves to specific fields such as politics, economy, society, or culture.
Professor Lee was recognized for his contributions to promoting disaster safety culture through his roles as an expert member of the Special Committee on the National Investigation into the Yongsan Itaewon Tragedy and its prevention, as chair of the cause analysis committee in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s public-private joint disaster cause investigation team for logistics warehouse fires, and as a member of the task force for establishing an integrated social disaster management system.
In addition, Professor Lee contributed to the field of legislative support through various roles in the National Assembly. He served as chair of the National Assembly Secretariat’s Software Task Review Committee, special member of the National Assembly Safe Korea Forum, legislative support committee member of the National Assembly Secretariat, editorial board member of the National Assembly Budget Office’s academic journal, guest research fellow and advisory committee member of the National Assembly Futures Institute, and budget analyst at the National Assembly Budget Office.
Professor Lee, who also serves as director of the Dong-A University Center for Emergency Response Technology and Policy Research, stated, “I believe this recognition was given for my dedication to nurturing master’s and doctoral graduates in disaster management in the region despite difficult circumstances.” He added, “I will continue to actively support academic research activities for national disaster management and a safer Korea, thereby raising the status of the university and the department as the chief professor of the Graduate School’s Department of Disaster Management.”
Professor Donggyu Lee of Dong-A University received a commendation from the National Assembly for his legislative support activities in disaster safety culture academic research.
