Geochang County Holds Special Gender Awareness and Violence Prevention Training for Senior Officials

Creating a Safe and Respectful Work Environment for About 30 Public Officials

Geochang County in Gyeongnam announced on the 29th that it held gender equality education and sexual harassment and sexual violence prevention training in the county office's main conference room for County Governor Koo Inmo, the Deputy Governor, and about 30 senior officials to create a safe and respectful working environment.


This training was planned to prevent workplace sexual harassment and sexual violence, and to foster an organizational culture where all employees can work with trust. The goal was to increase understanding and practical gender awareness regarding sexual harassment and sexual violence among senior officials first.

This training, conducted by inviting Jung Hyesim, a specialist instructor in violence prevention from the Korea Center for Gender Equality Education Promotion, focused on discussions and sharing opinions under the themes “Understanding how gender equality awareness impacts organizations and citizens” and “Accurately understanding the structure of sexual violence and preventing secondary harm,” creating strong consensus among participants.


Geochang County Governor Koo Inmo emphasized, “Senior officials must set an example and take the lead in preventing sexual harassment and sexual violence,” and requested, “With this training as an opportunity, I hope Geochang County will lead the way in fostering an organization where gender equality is the top priority.”


Meanwhile, Geochang County is continuously working to create a workplace culture free from sexual harassment and sexual violence through regular training and policies, including this recent education session.


In accordance with the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family's workplace sexual harassment and sexual violence case handling manual, the county has assigned four counselors who have completed specialized training to operate a grievance counseling center. This system allows victims, representatives, third parties, and perpetrators to seek counseling via phone, in-person visits, or written communication.


Additionally, the county is promoting various initiatives such as ▲a gender equality awareness survey ▲the “Open Up, Gender Equality Fairy Tale Book” project for children ▲a women-friendly academy ▲and leadership training for women leaders.
