Shift from '25,000 Won Payment to All Citizens'
Lee: "Better than Not Doing It"
Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, proposed that the government and ruling party of the Democratic Party push for the payment of a 'Livelihood Recovery Support Fund,' while mentioning that the party could change its election pledge of 'universal payment to all citizens.'
On the morning of the 29th, at the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly, Lee said, "The current economic situation is very bad," and stated, "The Livelihood Recovery Support Fund, which was also a pledge of the Democratic Party in the general election, is necessary." He continued, "It has the effect of income support for ordinary people and also stimulates consumption in local areas, revitalizing the economy," emphasizing, "Then the approval ratings of the government and ruling party will also rise."

He said, "I will no longer insist that the Livelihood Recovery Support Fund be paid equally to (all citizens)," and added, "If universal payment is difficult, differential support will also be accepted." He then proposed, "I suggest to President Yoon Seok-yeol and the government and ruling party to accept this policy solely considering the livelihood and lives of the people, and it would be good to meet quickly to discuss the specific details."
During the election campaign for the April 10 general election, the Democratic Party promised to pay 250,000 won of the 'Livelihood Recovery Support Fund' to all citizens. The Presidential Office has expressed opposition to the Democratic Party's proposal, both directly and indirectly. In response, Lee mentioned 'differential support' on this day and once again promoted the payment of the support fund.
