Seoul Metropolitan Gugak Orchestra Appoints Kim Seong-guk and Choi Su-yeol as Principal Guest Conductors

Sejong Center for the Performing Arts announced on the 29th that Professor Kim Seong-guk of Chung-Ang University and former Artistic Director of the Busan Philharmonic Orchestra, Choi Soo-yeol, have been appointed as principal guest conductors of the Seoul Metropolitan Traditional Orchestra. The Sejong Center introduced the principal guest conductor system on the 10th to maximize the artistic capabilities of the Seoul Metropolitan Traditional Orchestra and to produce diverse works.

Professor Kim Seong-guk served as the director of the Seoul Metropolitan Traditional Orchestra for two years until February. During his tenure, he planned and produced series performances such as the 'Master Performer Series,' 'Orchestra Series - Tradition and Experiment,' and 'Mixed Orchestra.'


Conductor Choi Soo-yeol served as the artistic director of the Busan Philharmonic Orchestra for over six years until December last year. Prior to that, he was the deputy conductor of the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and collaborated for many years with the National Gugak Orchestra.


The Seoul Metropolitan Traditional Orchestra plans to perform five works, including three regular concerts, in the second half of this year. Principal guest conductors Kim Seong-guk and Choi Soo-yeol will each be responsible for two performances, overseeing all artistic aspects related to the performances, including program planning and composition.
