About 10 Employees Collect Discarded Fishing Gear and Waste Plastics
Busan Coast Guard Also Joins 'Mulyangjang Marine Conservation Activity'
Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Kang Junseok) conducted a coastal cleanup activity around Cheonseong Port in Gadeokdo, Gangseo-gu, on the 28th to commemorate Ocean Day.
About 10 employees participated in the event, collecting abandoned fishing gear, waste plastics, household garbage, and styrofoam left on the beach near Cheonseong Port.
Cheonseong Port in Gadeokdo is a waterfront area equipped with amenities such as an auto camping site and restrooms. It generates a significant amount of general and household waste left behind by tourists and anglers who come to enjoy camping. Since 2022, BPA has been conducting annual coastal cleanup activities in the Cheonseong Port area, contributing to the improvement of the local environment by collecting coastal waste.
The sacks needed for the Cheonseong Port cleanup were provided by the Gadeokdodong Administrative Welfare Center in Gangseo-gu.
Some BPA staff also participated in a marine conservation activity commemorating Ocean Day, hosted by the Busan Coast Guard on the same day. Together with about 100 employees from related organizations such as Busan City and the Navy, they collected marine debris and took part in plogging and campaigns around the Mullyangjang area in Bongnae-dong, Yeongdo-gu.
BPA Director Lee Sangkwon said, "We find it meaningful to have held an event in collaboration with related organizations to commemorate Ocean Day," and added, "We will continue to work together to create a sustainable Busan Port and preserve the marine environment."
