As Russia's offensive against Ukraine intensifies, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is moving to secure security agreements with Western countries.

On the 28th (local time), President Zelensky visited Belgium and signed a security agreement with Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo. President Zelensky stated on X (formerly Twitter), "With this agreement, Belgium has pledged to provide Ukraine with at least 977 million euros (approximately 1.445 trillion won) in military support this year and to continue support for the next 10 years."

Belgium promised to deliver 30 F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine from this year through 2028. Belgian Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib said on local broadcaster RTL that the first fighter jet is scheduled to be delivered within this year. The security agreement also includes support over the next decade for modern armored vehicles, air force equipment, maritime security, mine clearance, and military training.

President Zelensky emphasized, "Ukraine and Belgium will also strengthen cooperation in information, cybersecurity, and countering disinformation," adding, "Belgium expressed support for Ukraine's accession to the European Union (EU) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)."

The day before, Ukraine signed a security agreement with Spain. Spain has committed to providing military support worth 1 billion euros (approximately 1.4 trillion won) to Ukraine this year.

The total number of Western countries with which Ukraine has bilateral security agreements has reached 11. Starting with the United Kingdom earlier this year, Ukraine has signed bilateral security agreements with Germany, France, Italy, Canada, and others. These countries have pledged long-term security support, including weapons provision and training for the Ukrainian military.
