Ordinance Proposed by Representative Kim Jong-wook Passed... Up to 250,000 Won Support Starting Next Year
An ordinance in Nonsan City, Chungnam Province, supporting veterinary care costs for socially disadvantaged individuals' companion animals has been enacted.
According to the Nonsan City Council on the 28th, the 'Ordinance on Supporting Veterinary Care Costs for Companion Animals of Socially Disadvantaged Persons in Nonsan City,' which was proposed by Councilor Kim Jong-wook at the 255th extraordinary session held on the 21st, was passed.
This ordinance obligates the Mayor of Nonsan to provide support for projects necessary to protect the characteristics of socially disadvantaged persons and the proper care of companion animals.
Starting next year, Nonsan City will support up to 250,000 KRW annually per individual for veterinary care costs of registered companion animals under the Animal Protection Act. Additionally, the city will fully cover animal registration fees according to the Chungnam Province Animal Protection Ordinance.
Furthermore, the Mayor of Nonsan is stipulated to prioritize selecting animal hospitals with offices located within the city to pay the veterinary care costs borne by the city.
Councilor Kim Jong-wook stated, "Academic research shows that socially disadvantaged individuals tend to have a high dependence on companion animals," adding, "Companion animals should be regarded as life friends and partners with whom we share our lives."
