Hwang Woo-yeo: "It Just Needs to Be Wrapped Up with a Strict Investigation"

The leadership of the People Power Party convened a party meeting on the 28th ahead of the vote on the Special Prosecutor Act for Sergeant Chae Sang-byeong, stating that "the passage of the Special Prosecutor Act is the start of the impeachment train," and launched a final crackdown on dissenting votes (votes in favor).

On the same day, at the party meeting held at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, Floor Leader Choo Kyung-ho said regarding the Chae Sang-byeong case, "If the Special Prosecutor Act is passed, the opposition party will immediately start the impeachment train," adding, "Each and every member has their own thoughts. I do not underestimate the weight of those concerns. However, as the ruling party, the People Power Party must make judgments based on the rule of law."

Floor Leader Choo expressed his condolences by saying, "Today, we are facing the vote on the Special Prosecutor Act for Sergeant Chae Sang-byeong. I sincerely mourn the late Sergeant Chae Su-geun and offer deep condolences to his bereaved family. My heart aches every time the Special Prosecutor Act for Sergeant Chae Sang-byeong is mentioned," but he also said, "The police and the High-ranking Officials’ Crime Investigation Division (PCC) are currently conducting investigations for the swift fact-finding of the case," and questioned, "Isn't it a priority to fully support the investigative agencies so that the investigation proceeds smoothly?"

He also directed criticism at the Democratic Party, which is leading the Special Prosecutor Act for Sergeant Chae Sang-byeong, saying, "Even though the results have come out, if public suspicions are not resolved, our party will take the lead. We will push for the special prosecutor first," but added, "However, the Special Prosecutor Act is a malicious law created by the Democratic Party for political strife and division. It is a malicious law made by the Democratic Party, investigated by the Democratic Party, and for the Democratic Party."

He further claimed that it is a means to avoid the judicial risks focused on Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung. Floor Leader Choo pointed out, "Outwardly, they claim to investigate allegations of external pressure, but their true intention is to shake the government, push for impeachment, and divert attention from Leader Lee’s judicial risks. That is why the constitutionally guaranteed presidential veto power was exercised."

He also said, "We must operate the government with infinite responsibility based on law and principles," and urged, "As members of the People Power Party, we must share responsibility and unite to continue the momentum for reform. We must come together. I hope you will approach this with a single-minded determination."
