In the video, Zhang Yuan said, "I just arrived in Korea and was about to work. But I heard from my team members that my anti-Korean remarks appeared on Korea's real-time search." He continued, "Honestly, I was very shocked. The truth is, those words were not my intention," and explained, "I heard that many plans and opportunities (for work in Korea) have all been canceled."
Earlier, Zhang Yuan caused anti-Korean controversy by saying on a recent TikTok broadcast, "I will visit Korea soon," and "I will also ask about (Koreans) stealing Chinese culture." Known as a pro-Korean figure through popular variety shows like 'Non-Summit,' he suddenly claimed on the broadcast, "I want to know (what Koreans who steal Chinese culture think), so I am thinking of doing street interviews," and asserted, "I will ask whether they think elements related to Dano Festival, Confucius, Hanja, and Chinese solar terms are all Korean."

He added, "I will wear the emperor's clothes from the Ming or Song dynasty and visit places like Korean palaces to take a look," and said, "I will ride the subway, visit busy streets and royal palaces as if on an inspection tour, showcasing the beauty of traditional Chinese men's clothing." As the controversy grew, Zhang Yuan said in the explanation video that day, "What I want to say now is that I want to handle this matter well. So please give me some time. I want to express my true feelings," and emphasized, "One principle I uphold is that I hope the civil relations between the two countries will improve."
