Hwaseong City, which is set to be promoted to a special city with a population of one million next year, is drawing attention by strengthening its data-driven administrative capabilities. This is based on the judgment that efficient administration based on data is essential to respond to the increasing demand due to continuous population growth.


According to Hwaseong City on the 28th, the city is expanding the scope of data-driven administration ahead of its designation as a special city. The city is actively utilizing data, participating in four public data standard analysis model projects?the most among local governments nationwide.

In fact, last year, the city newly opened 54 types of demand-centered public data and operates the data sharing platform 'Data Ro,' providing services such as ▲population and sales analysis ▲inbound and outbound migration ▲card sales visualization.


Along with this, through various in-house analyses such as ▲predicting the timing of reaching a population of one million ▲visualizing quarantine complaint data ▲analyzing public transportation data ▲analyzing the effects of local currency, the city is laying the foundation for data-driven policy formulation. In areas such as ▲crime prevention urban environment analysis ▲predicting care demand for new apartments ▲traffic data analysis ▲flood damage risk area analysis, data cooperation with external organizations is also expanding.


Notably, the transportation and safety sectors are drawing attention. By establishing an AI-based pothole detection and repair system, the city is reducing road accidents, while cooperating with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to analyze flood damage risk areas for disaster prevention.


In April, the city was also selected for the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s 'Data-Driven Administrative Capability Enhancement Consulting' project. Through this project, the city plans to promote tailored consulting with data experts, conduct data analysis and utilization capability assessments for employees, and establish customized capacity-building plans to advance data-driven administration.

Hwaseong City is actively utilizing AI in administration. It operates the first-ever Chat GPT research task force (TF) team among local governments nationwide to explore administrative applications of generative AI, while creating various data utilization innovation cases such as building chatbots and AI assistants for civil complaint consultations.


Jung Myung-geun, mayor of Hwaseong City, said, "I believe that data utilization capability is the beacon that illuminates the future of Hwaseong as a special city with one million people. Through the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s data-driven administrative capability enhancement consulting, we will emerge as a leading city in data utilization, enhancing citizens’ quality of life and urban competitiveness."
