Shinan-gun, Outstanding Achievements in King Prawn Aquaculture Industry

King Prawn Farm Completes Stocking of 500 Million Seedlings

Strong Start to Achieve 70 Billion Won in King Prawn Production

Shinan-gun, Jeollanam-do, is achieving new milestones as the king prawn aquaculture industry continues to grow.

According to the county on the 28th, Shinan-gun, the largest national production area for king prawns, recently completed the stocking of 500 million prawn larvae at its festival-style king prawn aquaculture farms and has entered full-scale farming.

This year, prawn larvae grown to 1.0?1.5g over about 1 to 2 months at intermediate nurseries have been stocked in the festival-style farms, which is expected to significantly contribute to reducing early mortality rates, adjusting harvest timing, and preventing diseases.

Last year, restocking was repeatedly required due to mortality, but this time, smooth farming has proceeded without mortality, highlighting a good harvest.

Additionally, three prawn larvae hatcheries in the region have produced over 400 million larvae, of which about 200 million are supplied to local farms, helping reduce transportation costs and enabling timely stocking.

With these efforts, Shinan-gun supports stable aquaculture management for fishermen, and production is expected to reach approximately 6,000 tons.

A county official stated, “The smart aquaculture cluster construction and the establishment of a king prawn production area distribution center are progressing smoothly, and these will play a pivotal role in the shrimp aquaculture industry in the future,” adding, “We will do our best to become an eco-friendly hub.”

Currently, Shinan-gun successfully produces about 3,100 tons of king prawns across 268 fishing households (836 hectares), accounting for 52% of the national farmed shrimp production and 81% of Jeollanam-do’s production.
