A Review Written in Alien Language Only Koreans Understand... Tried It on ChatGPT and "It Works"

Intentional Tense Consonants and Diphthongs in Reviews
Travel Trick for Koreans to Understand Each Other
Hard for People to Read but ChatGPT Decodes, Gaining Attention

It is written in Hangul, but it looks like an alien language. Still, Koreans can understand it. A review filled with tense consonants, diphthongs, and intentional spacing errors has become a hot topic as ChatGPT perfectly interprets it. On the 28th, multiple online communities posted a thread titled "The current state of review writing methods that only Koreans could understand."

The author, Mr. A, recently wrote a review as if he had visited accommodation near Higashi-Ikebukuro Station in Toshima Ward, Tokyo, and then asked ChatGPT, "What does this review mean?" Mr. A wrote the review mixing Korean tense consonants and diphthongs. This has been a kind of trick used since the past when writing dissatisfied reviews during overseas travel, so that even if foreigners cannot understand, Koreans can recognize and avoid them.

Mr. A wrote, "Hikka-ssiikebyukuro-yeoge-sseon 30-cho-to an kkeollil mankeum kkyakkapjjuman syuksso-kka myeophwi nyakhyupdyeoreupkkol elppi eopkkko 4-jjungjjip-ira jjim-i myeon-eun kkaekkossenghaemnitta XX," and "ppaekkywibyeolle nyawasskyo hwajjangssilli mani nyakkaksseumnitta. kkeuraesseo ttong-yeok hwajjangssil kkyasso ssasseumnitta. jjeoltaeryo yeokkyuro occhi masseyo!!! tteurupkko yajyu kkaettongkkat-eun kkaettaneul johahssineun ppunman kkasseyo."

Although the sentence is hard to understand at first glance, ChatGPT provided an interpretation. ChatGPT said, "This review appears to be a mixture of Japanese and Korean, with some inaccurate pronunciations. Interpreting the meaning as much as possible, it is as follows," and rewrote each sentence.

ChatGPT interpreted it as "a location about 30 seconds walk from Ikebukuro Station," "there is no elevator, and it is a 4th-floor house, so it can be difficult if you have a lot of luggage," and "the view was not good, the bathroom was small, and it smelled bad." However, it could not interpret the mention of cockroaches or that the reviewer used a nearby station's bathroom instead of the accommodation's bathroom.

Regarding the review, ChatGPT summarized, "The hotel or accommodation is in a good location, but there are several drawbacks such as no elevator, a small bathroom, and a bad smell, so it is not recommended," and emphasized "especially the very unsatisfactory condition due to dirtiness."

Netizens who saw this reacted with comments like "Be careful," "It interprets that," "AI reads what even I can't," and "Since it turned out like this anyway, I will boldly leave complaints from now on."
