Yeongcheon City in North Gyeongsang Province has been making what is called an "all-out effort" that transcends religion and region to attract the Daegu military base, which is the area's top priority, since announcing "Biryongseungun" as its New Year's slogan for 2024.

On the 26th, the city held a "Pal-gong-san Gatbawi Attraction Prayer Ceremony" at Gatbawi on Pal-gong-san, wishing for the successful attraction of the Daegu military base to Yeongcheon.

On this day, more than 100 people, including Mayor Choi Kimoon, National Assembly member Lee Manhee, and members of veterans' organizations, attended the event, made wishes at Gatbawi, and together chanted the slogan, "The Daegu military base to Yeongcheon!" demonstrating a strong commitment to bringing the base to the city.

This event was led by Monk Deokjo, the head monk of Eunhaesa Temple, the main temple of the 10th district of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, who presided over the prayer ceremony for the successful attraction of the Daegu military base to Yeongcheon. Participants performed 108 bows to pray for this success.

The Yeongcheon Christian Council also plans to hold a "Prayer Service for Attracting the Daegu Military Base" at a local church on June 23. Following last year's prayer service for the same cause, the Christian Council will continue to join efforts for the successful attraction of the base this year as well.

Mayor Choi Kimoon stated, "Not only citizens but also religious communities and even neighboring regions such as Pohang and Gyeongju are actively cooperating to bring the Daegu military base to Yeongcheon," adding, "We will do our utmost until the relocation of the Daegu military base to Yeongcheon is finalized."
