Gwangju Buk-gu Selected for 'Disabled Reading Culture Program Support Project' Competition

On the 27th, Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced that it has been selected for the '2024 Disabled Reading Culture Program Support Project' organized by the National Library for the Disabled.

Gwangju Buk-gu Selected for 'Disabled Reading Culture Program Support Project' Competition

The Disabled Reading Culture Program Support Project is a program supported by the National Library for the Disabled to provide high-quality reading culture experiences to disabled people, who are a culturally vulnerable group, in order to bridge the information gap and promote the expansion of cultural enjoyment opportunities for the disabled.

This year's competition recruited participating institutions nationwide from public and disabled libraries and special schools, targeting four types of disabilities: visual, auditory, developmental, and physical. A total of 70 institutions were selected, and Buk-gu's Junghung Library was chosen for the physical disability type program support project.

Following the selection, Buk-gu Junghung Library will collaborate with the Gwangju Disabled Welfare Center to operate the 'Mind Filling Picture Book Healing Art' program, which supports various culture experiences based on reading suitable for the characteristics of disabilities, such as library tours, picture book appreciation, and post-reading activities for physically disabled users of the welfare center.

The program will run from this month until July, with a total of 11 sessions including one library tour and 10 sessions of picture book appreciation and post-reading activities during this period.

Additionally, after the program ends, a survey will be conducted with participants, and Buk-gu plans to reflect the survey results, including suggestions, in future disabled reading culture programs.
