Culture and Tourism Festival ... Tens of Thousands Visit

Miryang City in Gyeongnam announced on the 27th that the 66th Miryang Arirang Grand Festival was held with great success from the 23rd to the 26th at Yeongnamnu Pavilion and along the Miryang River.

The Miryang River Odyssey, a real-scene multimedia musical show set against the backdrop of National Treasure Yeongnamnu Pavilion and the night view of the Miryang River, attracted audiences throughout the festival period.

This year, the festival presented the stories of Park Jin, the Miryang governor and hero of the Battle of Jagwongwan during the Imjin War, Hyun Gyeok, the only female member of the Uiyeoldan, and independence activist Yoon Seju, on a grand outdoor stage, delivering an unforgettable and moving performance to the audience.

In particular, the certificate designating Yeongnamnu Pavilion as a National Treasure was displayed at the entrance of the Arirang Theme Hall to commemorate its redesignation as a National Treasure after 60 years. The Arirang Theme Hall featured a variety of interesting displays, including relics and published materials, an Arirang listening corner, and a digital game zone, allowing visitors to see the past, present, and future of Arirang at a glance.

A variety of hands-on activities enriched the festival even further. At the Arirang Maze and Arirang Wonderland, children could experience and learn about the history and culture of Miryang through maze games and play. The Miryang Agriculture Pavilion, where visitors could learn about the future of Miryang agriculture and purchase fresh local produce, and the Uiyeoldan Experience, which allowed participants to experience the independence movement, were among the many programs held throughout the venue, providing unique enjoyment for festival-goers.

The Samyang Ramen pop-up store also proved extremely popular, especially among the MZ generation. Divided into three zones?game zone, photo zone, and exhibition zone?it offered a variety of participatory events.

This year's festival expanded its radius into the city center to help revitalize the local economy. In particular, the fringe performances held in the new Sammun-dong area during the festival period provided additional entertainment for visitors to local restaurants and businesses.

Miryang Mayor Ahn Byunggu said, "The successful hosting of the grand festival was only possible thanks to the efforts of everyone who quietly fulfilled their roles behind the scenes, including volunteer groups, civic organizations, and public officials. Going forward, we will further enhance the festival's status as Korea's leading cultural tourism festival and develop it into a differentiated event that embodies the unique spirit of Miryang."

Meanwhile, the city established a systematic disaster response and safety management plan from the festival planning stage, setting a good precedent for ensuring that tourists could enjoy the festival safely and comfortably.
