Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, Recruiting Businesses to Participate in Old Kitchen Hygiene Environment Improvement Project

Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 27th that it will promote the ‘Old Kitchen Hygiene Environment Improvement Project’ to preemptively block food hazards, improve the hygiene environment of restaurant kitchens, and establish a safe food culture.

The target is general restaurants handling meals that have been in operation for more than six months. A professional company will support cleaning of major kitchen equipment such as ventilation facilities (hoods, ducts, fans), cooking appliances (including fryers), and the interior and exterior of refrigerators. Depending on the cleaning priority requested, support of up to 1 million KRW (with no self-payment) can be received. Gwangsan-gu plans to provide organization, storage, and hygiene education for business owners concurrently.

Gwangsan-gu aims to recruit more than 30 participating businesses by the 10th of next month. For detailed information about the project, refer to the announcement board on the Gwangsan-gu website or contact the Gwangsan-gu Food Hygiene Team.

Additionally, from the end of this month, Gwangsan-gu will also promote a restaurant hygiene disinfection management support project. The target is 34 general restaurants handling meals with an area of 100㎡ or less that have been operating for more than six months. Disinfection costs and professional hygiene management consultations will be supported within 1 million KRW. The district plans to actively encourage participating restaurants to apply for designation or renewal under the hygiene rating system.

A Gwangsan-gu official stated, “The Old Kitchen Hygiene Environment Improvement Project will provide cleaning support along with organization, storage, and hygiene education to ensure that kitchens remain clean even after the project.” He added, “We will continue efforts to create a safe dining environment where citizens can use with peace of mind.”
