Socar Expands Camping Car Service from Seoul Metropolitan Area to Jeju and Gangneung

Socar Expands Camping Car Service from Seoul Metropolitan Area to Jeju and Gangneung

Socar announced on the 27th that it will expand its campervan rental service, previously limited to the metropolitan area, to Jeju and Gangneung.

The campervans operated by Socar include three models: Staria Camper 4, Camper 11, and Ray. All are equipped with pop-up tents on the roof to provide additional sleeping space. By folding down the interior seats to create a flat surface, customers can enjoy car camping by simply preparing sleeping bags and blankets.

The campervan service can be used not only by renting and returning vehicles at Socar zones but also through the ‘Bureum’ service, which delivers and picks up the vehicle at the customer’s desired location, and the ‘One-way’ service, which allows changing only the return location. Campervans can be reserved for use of 24 hours or more and are available only in the metropolitan area (excluding some regions) including Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi, as well as Jeju and Gangneung.

According to an analysis of campervan usage data from August 2023 to April this year, 66% of campervan rental customers were aged 30 and above, showing a higher age group compared to general Socar users. For the Ray campervan, the proportion of users in their 20s was 20% higher than that of the Staria Camper. Weekend rentals accounted for about 54%, with weekend rentals making up more than half due to the nature of campervans being rented for more than one day.

Popular rental locations within Seoul were in the order of Gangnam-gu, Songpa-gu, Mapo-gu, and Gwanak-gu. Outside Seoul, Incheon Seo-gu, Siheung-si in Gyeonggi, and Gwangmyeong-si had high reservation rates.

Among campervan rental customers, 40% enjoyed car camping and camping in Gyeonggi-do (including Hwaseong, Ansan, Siheung, Namyangju, Gwangju, Paju, etc.). The place where the vehicle was parked the longest during the rental period was considered the camping or car camping location. Following Gyeonggi-do, the distribution was ▲Seoul 20% ▲Gangwon-do (Gangneung, Yangyang, Hongcheon, Pyeongchang, Yeoncheon, etc.) 15% ▲Incheon 12% ▲Chungcheong-do 10% ▲Gyeongsangbuk-do 2% ▲Others 1%.

Meanwhile, to celebrate the addition of new campervan models, Socar will launch a discount promotion for the Staria Camper 4 until the 30th of next month. During the promotion period, using a coupon will apply a 65% discount on the Staria Camper 4 rental fee regardless of weekdays or weekends.
