Under this agreement, LG Chem will supply eco-friendly paint raw materials based on carbon dioxide conversion or microbial fermentation, and KCC will develop eco-friendly paint products using these materials.
The eco-friendly raw materials supplied by LG Chem, based on carbon dioxide and microbial fermentation, have a diverse product portfolio that not only reduces carbon but also meets the required physical properties for various applications.
Both companies plan to replace existing raw materials with eco-friendly ones to maintain physical properties equal to or better than existing paints and apply them to various paint fields such as automotive coatings.
Kim Sang-hoon, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Vice President of KCC, said, "LG Chem's carbon-neutral materials developed this time are not only excellent in eco-friendliness but can also upgrade product quality, which will create great synergy with KCC paint."
Lee Jong-gu, CTO of LG Chem, said, "We will strive to set new standards for eco-friendly products and develop various materials."
Meanwhile, LG Chem is actively promoting research and development and business related to clean tech, including eco-friendly bio materials, plastic recycling, and CO2 conversion utilization, and is accelerating investment in the eco-friendly sector.
