President Yoon Suk-yeol stated on the 26th that he and Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio, who visited Korea to attend the Korea-Japan-China Summit, "have agreed to continue cooperating to achieve tangible results in areas such as energy, economic security, small and medium-sized enterprises and startups, information and communication technology (ICT), and advanced technology."

In particular, to mark the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations next year, they agreed to prepare various projects under communication between diplomatic authorities to elevate bilateral relations to a higher level.

President Yoon and Prime Minister Kishida held a Korea-Japan summit from 4:35 p.m. to 5:25 p.m. that day for about 50 minutes, stating, "As tangible results that the people of both countries can feel are practically emerging following the improvement of Korea-Japan relations, let us continue to work together to further expand cooperation in various fields."

The two leaders welcomed the holding of the Korea-Japan summit alongside the Korea-Japan-China Summit, an important cooperation framework for peace and prosperity in the Northeast Asia region, and evaluated the resumption of shuttle diplomacy after one year based on deep trust, maintaining close communication.

They also viewed that economic cooperation is becoming more active thanks to the improvement of Korea-Japan relations. The two leaders welcomed the agreement to hold dialogues between relevant ministries of both countries on hydrogen, ammonia, and resources, and agreed to further strengthen cooperation in the supply chain sector.

To develop a future-oriented bilateral relationship, they agreed to explore ways to expand youth exchanges such as studying abroad, internships, and employment. President Yoon also appreciated the recent additional contributions by Japanese companies to the "Japan-Korea Future Partnership Fund."

The two leaders evaluated the mutual assistance provided last year for the urgent return of their nationals staying in Sudan and Israel, and agreed to continue communication to expand cooperation in protecting overseas nationals.

Furthermore, they shared concerns over North Korea blatantly violating United Nations Security Council (UNSC) sanctions, refusing dialogue, and focusing on strengthening its nuclear forces. They agreed to continue strengthening cooperation among Korea-Japan and Korea-U.S.-Japan trilateral coordination. They also agreed to maintain close communication on various regional and global issues and to enhance cooperation between the two countries in international forums such as the Security Council.

The two leaders agreed, according to the presidential office, to continue active communication at all levels and sectors following this year’s first Korea-Japan summit.
