Changwon Special Mayor's Cup: National Hapkido Practitioners Compete at Masan Gymnasium

800 Hapkido Practitioners from 11 Cities and Counties Participate
Two Days Filled with Energetic Spirit and Challenging Attitude Shine

Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam hosted the Changwon Special Mayor’s National Hapkido Competition at the Masan Gymnasium from the 25th to the 26th.

This year marks the 12th edition of the event, organized by the Changwon Sports Council and supervised by the Changwon Hapkido Association. A total of 800 participants, including 470 Hapkido athletes from 11 cities and counties, along with their families and officials, took part in the competition.


On the first day, the 25th, four individual matches by weight and age group (long-distance breakfall, bare-handed forms, weapon forms, and self-defense techniques) as well as sparring matches were held. On the 26th, group demonstration evaluations took place, with awards and a closing ceremony marking the grand finale of the two-day event.


At the opening ceremony, Changwon Special City Mayor Hong Nam-pyo said, "I welcome all Hapkido teams from across the nation. I hope you fully demonstrate the skills you have honed and achieve great results, and that you gain valuable experiences and wonderful memories during your stay."


Meanwhile, Hapkido is a traditional martial art imbued with the true spirit of a warrior. It goes beyond the realm of simple martial arts, fostering respect, etiquette, self-reflection, and mental discipline. It also helps develop self-defense abilities, making it a beloved sport among modern people for its benefits as a lifelong physical activity.
