Goal to Reach 1,000 Global Stores by Next Year
Convenience store GS25 announced on the 26th that it has surpassed 300 stores locally in Vietnam, six years after entering the market. GS25 plans to increase the number of stores to over 500 by next year and leap to become the number one convenience store in the local market.
The 300th store of Vietnam GS25, 'GS25 Dien Bien Phu Branch,' which opened on the 23rd in Ho Chi Minh City, is located in a university commercial district and is a super-large convenience store with an area of 393㎡ (119 pyeong). The first floor specializes in food items such as ramen and instant cooked products, while the second floor is equipped with more than 20 tables and a photo booth.
This store is the first 'K-Kkwabaegi' store, a collaboration between GS25, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and Bongttang, a small and medium-sized enterprise. Previously, GS Retail partnered with Bongttang, which sells 'Kkwabaegi donuts' domestically, to launch products at GS25 convenience stores in Vietnam and Mongolia.
Vietnam GS25 started with the opening of its first store, 'GS25 Emprise Tower Branch,' in Ho Chi Minh City in January 2018. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, it maintained an aggressive store expansion strategy and surpassed foreign brands such as Circle K and FamilyMart, which entered the local market earlier, in the southern Vietnam region. Since September last year, GS25 has added three types of franchise models in Vietnam to expand franchise store development. Currently, the number of franchise stores among Vietnam GS25 has increased to 35.
Jung Chae-oh, head of GS25 Overseas Business Operations Team, said, "Achieving 300 stores in Vietnam reflects the brand competitiveness and success of localization strategies, which is a tangible result. We will do our best to grow into the undisputed number one convenience store in Vietnam and further develop into a global brand."
GS25 has set a goal to surpass 500 stores each in Vietnam and Mongolia by next year, achieving 1,000 global stores, and to increase to 1,500 stores by 2027.
