Metropolitan Mayors' Council to Depart on 26th for Visit to European Resource Recovery Facilities

Visit to Eco-friendly Incineration Facilities in Austria and Denmark

Mayors belonging to the National Association of Large City Mayors departed on the 26th to assess the resource recovery and recycling facilities and the use of renewable energy in Austria and Denmark.

The visit includes Lee Sang-il, chairman of the association and mayor of Yongin, Lee Dong-hwan, mayor of Goyang, Shin Sang-jin, mayor of Seongnam, Joo Kwang-deok, mayor of Namyangju, Kim Byung-soo, mayor of Gimpo, and Lee Kang-deok, mayor of Pohang. They plan to visit six resource circulation and eco-friendly facilities in Austria and Denmark over a 4-night, 6-day schedule until the 31st, touring the facilities and receiving explanations about their operations from facility heads and related personnel.


The delegation will visit the Spittelau Waste Incineration Plant in Vienna, Austria, which has transformed into a tourist attraction drawing 600,000 visitors annually, and the Amager Bakke Incineration Plant in Copenhagen, Denmark, which features a ski slope and serves as a recreational center.


The association will also visit Youngsan Group, a Korean trading company headquartered in Austria that supplies vehicle-related parts, to sign a business agreement supporting overseas employment for young people from large cities.


They are scheduled to sign a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote mutual cooperation with the World-OKTA, an overseas Korean economic organization consisting of about 7,000 overseas Korean CEOs and 21,000 next-generation entrepreneurs across 148 chapters in 70 countries worldwide.


The mayoral delegation will also meet with Ham Sang-wook, the Ambassador to Austria, to discuss the economic situation in Western Europe and local companies' investments in Korea.
