A Man in His 40s Wielding a Knife at His Mother on the Street... Passing Police Officer Arrests Him and Citizens Provide First Aid

A man in his 40s who stabbed his mother multiple times with a weapon in broad daylight on the street was caught by a passing police officer.

According to Yonhap News, Mr. A (41) was arrested on the morning of the 24th at around 11:52 AM in Hakik-dong, Michuhol-gu, Incheon, on charges of stabbing his mother, Ms. B, in her 60s, multiple times with a weapon. The police officers who arrested Mr. A were Lee Byung-hee, head of the Criminal Division 2 at Michuhol Police Station in Incheon, and two fellow detectives, who happened to be passing by the scene in a car. They apprehended Mr. A on the spot while he was still holding the weapon.

Ms. B was seriously injured, but thanks to emergency first aid provided by a man in his 40s who happened to pass by, her life was not in danger. This man, who holds an emergency medical technician certification, stopped the bleeding and prevented excessive blood loss. The police plan to request an arrest warrant for Mr. A on charges of attempted murder of a direct ascendant.

A police official stated, "Mr. A was initially arrested on charges of attempted murder, but after confirming that the victim was his mother, the charge was changed to attempted murder of a direct ascendant. We plan to investigate Mr. A’s motive for the crime."
