The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that on the 24th, Minister Cho met with a delegation led by Jason Matheny, president of the U.S. think tank RAND Corporation, and exchanged views on the ROK-US alliance, science and technology cooperation, and North Korea and North Korean nuclear issues.
Minister Cho stated, "Bilateral cooperation is expanding beyond the military sector to economic security, science and technology, and intelligence," and called for RAND Corporation to play an active role.
President Matheny responded, "Given South Korea's significant capabilities to contribute in extended deterrence, advanced technology, and defense industries, the institute will also advance related research."
Both sides exchanged opinions on the security situation on the Korean Peninsula caused by North Korean provocations and the impact of North Korea-Russia military cooperation on security in the Indo-Pacific region and Europe, and discussed cooperation measures to strengthen the ROK-US alliance and ROK-US-Japan security cooperation, including extended deterrence.
Additionally, the two sides exchanged views on AUKUS (the security alliance among the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia), supply chains, energy including nuclear power, and defense industry cooperation.
